Putin Played Trump - Again

Right up until the time Trump met with Putin on August 15, Trump insisted he would demand an immediate ceasefire between Russia and the Ukraine from Putin.
The man who wrote “Art of the Deal” and insists he is the best dealmaker in the world; the man who bragged he could end the Russia-Ukraine War on Day ONE of his presidency, emerged three hours later, with still no ceasefire in place.
He had ONE job to do and he failed it miserably.
NOW Trump is trying to sell the idea that it’s better to skip the ceasefire process and go right for the ultimate goal - peace.
This of course was Putin’s idea. Putin doesn’t want a ceasefire and if compelled to agree to a ceasefire, will never honour it anyway.
But where have we heard that before?
Almost five months ago, on February 28, Zelensky patiently explained all that to Trump in the Oval Office.
But Trump and his lackey Vance were too busy mocking Zelensky’s clothing and bullying the Ukraine President to pay attention.
Trump, who is never at fault for anything - ever, quickly pointed out that Putin had never broken a ceasefire with him. Suggesting things would be different now that he was in charge.
And I guess Trump was right. Putin can’t break a deal with Trump if Trump can’t even persuade Putin to make a deal in the first place.
Seeking “peace” of course is a very honorable goal, however a “ceasefire” in the meantime would at least immediately pause the killing on both sides and bring to an end any war atrocities that are being committed while the details are worked out.
If Putin were really interested in peace and thought it was possible, wouldn’t you think it would make sense to agree to a temporary ceasefire if for no other reason than to reduce Russia’s own military loss of manpower and expenditures?
Of course Putin doesn’t want any part of that because his concept of peace includes Ukraine, the second-largest country in Europe, becoming part of the largest country in Europe - Russia. Putin knows there will be no peace until that goal has been achieved, so why delay the process with trivial things like ceasefires?
Putin just bought himself more time thanks to Trump’s deal making skills. Perhaps it’s Putin who is the best dealmaker in the world. Maybe Trump’s book “Art Of The Deal” should have been declared a “classified document”. But then Trump’s never really been too careful with classified information, has he?
