Easy Cheesy Breakfast

Image
There aren’t many of my recipes that could be accused of actually being “healthy”, but if you want a breakfast treat that is at least a little "healthier" than some of my other options, this is a quick and easy one to make. According to the “experts”, one day all that cholesterol in the eggs is bad for you and the next day they’ve determined it’s not so bad after all. On a good day, eggs are even good for you. I’ve given up trying to keep score. You’ll have to decide the merits of the six ingredients (bread, salt and pepper, eggs, butter and cheese) for yourself. And of course you can always choose the lesser of the evils by substituting margarine for butter or vice versa if you can ever get a straight answer from the sages as to which really is better. However, the preparation of this recipe requires baking instead of frying as is the more common method to prepare eggs, so that’s my justification for suggesting this recipe may be “healthier” even if it’s not “healthy.” You

- jim Young “There may be times when we are powerless to prevent injustice… but there must never be a time when we fail to protest.” - Elie Wiesel Whichever side of the fence you’re on in the Freedom Convoy Protest of 2022, the fact remains that the Federal Court of Canada has ruled that Trudeau and his Government violated the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms when they invoked the Emergencies Act on February 14, 2022 in Ottawa. Passed into law in 1988 the Emergencies Act” had never previously been used under that name. The Emergencies Act replaced the War Measures Act which had been adopted in 1914 shortly after the beginning of World War I. The War Measures Act had been invoked only 3 times. Once during World War I, once during World War II and lastly on October 17th, 1970 when Justin Trudeau’s father Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau invoked it, suspending civil liberties during the FLQ crisis. This is the only time the War Measures Act had been put in place in peacetime. Similar

The Broken 8-Track

  - jim Young “All broken things can be fixed. The hard part is deciding that they’re worth fixing.” - Jennifer Hartman That’s kinda the problem with the world today. The more things become computerized, the less opportunity there is to fix them yourself. As frustrating as it was to have your cassette player eat your favourite Beatles tape... at least it wasn’t a lost cause. The first step was to get the tape out of the player, preferably intact. But even if that wasn’t possible, your broken cassette tape could still be repaired with another kind of tape... Scotch Tape. The trick was to mend the cassette tape with the Scotch Tape on the side that didn’t pass directly over the heads of the player. The creases and folds in the tape couldn’t be ironed smooth, but once the cassette tape was rewound tightly into the cassette using a pencil or bic pen, it was still usually playable. With the tape running at a speed of 1.875 inches

- jim Young “We’re not talking about one hungry plant here, we’re talking about conquest.” - Seymour from Little Shop of Horrors” Scientists around the world are researching the possibility of getting rid of our “plastics problem” with “polyurethane-eating” mushrooms. In recent years a variety of mushrooms have been discovered that seem to have the capability of digesting and breaking down plastics over a period of several months. Left on their own, the general consensus has been that plastic bags take 10 to 20 years to decompose, while plastic bottles require 450 years and other plastics up to 1,000 years to return to the earth. As an added bonus, some of these mushrooms can transform the plastic into an edible mycelium. It is probably best that we manage our expectations for an immediate solution, but would it be too much to hope that we might finally be able to rid the oceans of the deadly plastics that continue to plague them? Can we expect to one day see mushrooms growing in our
