“That’s all she wrote!

It’s been one hell of a blast!

Goodbye - over and out!

It’s lights out!”

I hope the title of this column is not confusing. Despite the similarity with the title of Rod Urquhart’s regular column Talk Turkey With Urqey in the GNA, this is not Rod Urquhart writing.

This is just me, jim (Dog On A Root) Young writing about Rod Urquhart’s writing.

To be more specific, I am writing about some of Rod’s books.

I have just received an early copy of Rod Urquhart’s latest book Tales Within The Outhouse.

It is a “collection of funny short stories” and the third and final book in Rod’s trilogy of “Outhouse short story books” that began with Tales For The Outhouse followed by More Tales For The Outhouse.

Spoiler Alert! You don’t have to read these books in an outhouse, but you’ll be missing out on a grand old rural tradition if you don’t.

This trilogy of books can be just as enjoyable while reading them in your own bathroom. (Your cell-phone never really belonged in the bathroom anyway.) Or you can read them while laying in bed next to your sweetheart, on a beach in Cuba or snuggled up in a cozy armchair in front of a fire while a wintery storm rages outside. Hide one of these “outhouse” books behind your copy of Standard Operating Procedures for your workplace and your boss will never know you’re not working. Of course you’ll have to learn to stifle your laughs, which will be plenty. Your boss will not be impressed if he thinks you find the procedures he wrote for the working environment to be humorous. But you will be impressed with Rod’s stories.

Renowned author Anne Miner had this to say about Tales Within The Outhouse

“Each Chapter in Tales Within The Outhouse” reflects a moment in Rod’s life-journey that contained many happy experiences; as you follow him down memory lane, you are sure to find yourself laughing out loud as you are drawn into the funny, awkward, and downright hilarious times along the way.”

I can’t wait to get started on this newest release of Rod’s books. I have peeked into it enough to know it’s going to be just as good as the first in the series which I am just finishing up. I don’t believe they need to be read in order, so I will likely come back to the middle book in the series once I have finished this newest edition.

If you haven’t checked out any of Rod Urquhart’s books yet, you should. You can purchase these and other books by contacting Rod himself at: roderick.urquhart@gmail.com.
