DOGE Performance Evaluation

In the realm of expectation, disappointment is king.” - anon

If someone promised to save you a substantial sum of money and was only able to produce less than 15% of half of what they originally promised… you likely wouldn’t afford them much credibility in their field, would you?

In fact, in light of their failure, you would likely think they were pretty stupid. Either that or they were taking you for a ride all along.

Musk is the richest man in the world. So if he’s stupid, he must be very, very lucky to get where he is. Yet this is what he has done “for”, or perhaps “to” the American people might be a better way to put it.

PROMISES AND EXPECTATIONS

While campaigning for Trump, Musk bragged about cutting $2 trillion from government expenses.

Once Trump was elected Musk reduced that promise to $1 trillion.

As recently as last March, Musk bragged he was on schedule to reduce spending of $1 trillion by the end of May.

Recently Musk has reduced that to just 15% or $150 billion, however analysts are predicting that the final amount will be even less because DOGE has been making billion dollar errors and incorrect assumptions about future federal spending.

MISCOUNTED

According to DOGE some of the errors that they are already admitting were the result of entries being mistakenly triple counted while others were reported as BILLIONS of dollars but were actually MILLIONS of dollars. What do you think Musk would do to anyone in any of his companies that made that kind of error?

TAKING CREDIT FOR SOMEONE ELSE’S WORK

One of the $1.9 billion dollar savings involved a canceled IRS contract that had actually been previously canceled during President Biden’s presidency.

TOO LATE

A $1.75 billion projected savings was to come from cancelling a grant to a vaccine nonprofit organization. Unfortunately, the nonprofit organization had already received the grant so there was no savings to be gained by cancelling that contract. You can’t count money you’ve already lost as a savings.

FAKE SAVINGS

Many of the projected savings were overstated or fake savings according to Romina Boccia, the director of budget and entitlement policy at the libertarian Cato Institute.

EVEN FIRING EVERYONE ISN’T ENOUGH

The New Yorker calculated that if DOGE fired every single federal worker outside the military and the USPS it would still only save the federal government $245.8 billion.

So what do you think? Is Musk really THAT stupid? I don’t like the man but I don’t believe he’s stupid. So if he’s not stupid, what is it? The only other likely explanation I can come up with is he’s been taking Trump and all of America along for a ride. THAT I can believe.

Even the rides at Disneyland don't cost THAT much.
